Construction Safety Week: September 14-18, 2020

Construction Safety Week will be kicked off on September 14. Read the message from Scott Cassels and Mike McKelvy, who are part of the Executive Committee Chair.

————————————

We’re looking forward to Construction Safety Week, which has been rescheduled for Sept. 14-18, following a delay from our traditional May dates. We hope you all have plans to join us.

Through everything that’s happened in 2020, we have both been reminded of just how proud we are to work in construction. Across the industry, our people and companies have faced the challenges of COVID-19 head on to continue to deliver the crucial infrastructure our communities depend on for clean water, reliable power, safe transportation, accessible health care and so much more.

Even though Construction Safety Week will likely look different this year, with smaller discussions and trainings taking the place of mass meetings and demonstrations, we believe it’s more important now than ever to come together and recommit to safety as the foundation of our industry. Our Built on Safety theme expresses this well. Safety must be the cornerstone of everything we do, from planning an operation, to addressing a global pandemic.

This year we wanted to make it easier than ever to participate in Construction Safety Week. In addition to taking the time to review and assess your company’s safety programs, we encourage everyone to join us in discussions about these important daily topics as follows:

  • Monday, Sept. 14: Built on Safety
  • Tuesday, Sept. 15: Focus on the Fundamentals
  • Wednesday, Sept. 16: COVID-19 Safety
  • Thursday, Sept. 17: Mental Health Awareness
  • Friday, Sept. 18: Thank You, Construction Workers

A toolbox talk training and overview video for each topic can be found on our website — ConstructionSafetyWeek.com — on the Plan for Safety Week page.

We hope you find these resources easy to use as you plan for Construction Safety Week at your organizations. You can also refer to our website for additional items, such as at-home family safety activities and translated safety materials. As you use what we’ve provided and plan training, discussion and recognition activities of your own, please continue to follow all federal, state, provincial and local COVID-19 guidelines to ensure your events are safe for your people and communities.

Finally, on behalf of the entire Construction Safety Week 2020 executive committee, we want to thank everyone on construction sites across North America for the hard work and dedication you put into what you do every day, in good and challenged times. Thanks for making Built on Safety a reality — for you, your co-workers, and your family and friends at home.

Take care and have an excellent Safety Week.
